Your sources.
Your reading edition.
A PWA for finding reading routes and turning your own accessible text into a newspaper-style personal edition. It works as a website and can be installed on Android and iPhone.
What Wednesday’s demo can show
- Open Create edition and choose Try the Times example.
- Open the Camden NewsBank link and sign in there with your own membership. Choose CamdenLibraries if asked. Read EveryThing never needs a borrower number or PIN.
- Copy the text you can read and are permitted to keep, return to the PWA, and paste it. Or import a plain-text file / reviewed desktop capture.
- Keep the original headline, author, publisher and date. Choose Classic broadsheet, Modern daily or Plain reading.
- Add a video link and label whether it is related, unchecked, or the same clip you personally compared. Choose Create reading page.
- Show the independent masthead, source credits, AI generated presentation label, readable text, video provenance and local notes. Export HTML for a personal offline copy where permitted.
For a demonstration that needs no membership or publisher content, choose Open original demo. It uses original illustrative writing and a separately labelled public PlayCulture video.
The limit that matters
A pasted paywalled link does not automatically produce most of the article. The app needs an accessible copy or text supplied by the reader. It does not invent missing paragraphs, log into library accounts in the background, share the owner’s membership with visitors, or republish newspaper text in the public app.
The familiar layout is independent of the publisher. It uses broad newspaper conventions, its own Read EveryThing masthead and original source attribution. The suffix AI generated applies to the AI-written presentation template and link selection, not to the imported reporting or the linked creator’s footage. There is no runtime AI model call or recurring AI API charge.
Educational use and open-source code do not themselves give permission to redistribute publishers’ articles, photographs or video. The software is MIT licensed; source content retains its own permissions.
The specific Times video: not located
Adam’s supplied screenshot identifies the headline and a video thumbnail, but contains no direct video address. The full Camden NewsBank web-edition text was opened, through its ending. That page had captions but no playable Times video. The original Times page still presented its subscription/login gate.
| Platform | What the check established |
|---|---|
| YouTube | Exact-headline, zombie-tag and Fintan Hogan searches against Times/Times News references found no verified matching official post. The Times News channel identification was checked against a verified upload’s description. |
| Public indexed searches for The Times and the specific story found no verified matching post. A missing index result does not establish absence from the account. | |
| TikTok | Inspection was blocked by robots.txt. Posting remains unknown; no workaround was attempted. |
| Public indexed searches found no verified matching post. The Times’ channel description links timesandsundaytimes; an exact video there was not established. |
Original Times article · Times News account-description reference
PlayCulture’s official gameplay film is public and its playback was verified. Runtime: 55:56. It is related footage; it has not been established as the Times video or the reporter’s session. The organiser links it from its official game page. There is also an official tutorial; its playback was not tested.
Public app, private reading
The owner authorised a public app link. Visitors can open the app without using the owner’s ChatGPT account once public deployment is verified. Each visitor brings their own access; the app includes no library credentials, membership scans or newspaper full text.
Text, notes and generated editions stay in each browser’s IndexedDB. Browser storage is not encrypted by this app, and different devices do not automatically sync. Use Back up everything and Import to move your reading. A public deployment does not upload an existing device’s library.
External reading/video links open their original sites. A user-triggered news search sends the chosen phrase to Google News or Bing News through a fixed lookup service. A user-triggered archive lookup sends the article URL to Internet Archive. Platform-search buttons send the displayed headline/publisher phrase to Google. No saved article text or notes are sent by those features.
General newspaper access is still source-dependent. The exact Camden Times route is a verified example, not a promise that every newspaper is covered. Your temporary Camden access worked on 17 October; complete membership as required by the library, then use the replacement number only on its provider’s login page.
Install and keep an offline copy
Android Chrome: open the app, use the menu → Add to Home screen → Install. iPhone Safari: Share → Add to Home Screen. Open it online once and check Help says Offline copy ready.
Saved text and notes are readable offline; video playback, search and provider links need internet. This edition’s phone installation, update and offline behaviour need a fresh device check. Earlier Reading Room installation and offline reading were confirmed by the owner; those checks do not automatically certify this update.
The existing address and storage database are retained to preserve an installed Reading Room library. The phone may retain the old icon label until its manifest refreshes or the shortcut is reinstalled. Back up first.
Open-source and AWS route
The delivered source ZIP contains editable HTML/CSS/JavaScript, tests, a minimal optional lookup server, an MIT licence and deployment instructions. It does not include newspaper full text, library credentials, the owner’s local library or Sites secrets. Source publication on a public GitHub repository is a separate action; the ZIP is ready to share.
Host the static PWA on AWS Amplify Hosting or S3 behind CloudFront with HTTPS. Static reading, imports and exports do not need a cloud backend. The optional discovery/archive lookup can run behind an API Gateway/Lambda service or a small server; preserve the fixed upstream endpoints, size limits and origin checks. The current Sites backend is an additional portable source package, not required for offline reading.
To share the guide, attach this HTML file. To share the app, send the public HTTPS URL. Sharing an exported reading page also shares its text and notes; check the source’s permissions first.
